After some research on a few TNT and GeFore cards, I think I can
answer this question myself.

It seems that the hardware which handles XVideo on NVidia cards is
not aware of any interlace settings. Instead of drawing odd and even
scanlines in proper sync with the interlace, it tries to draw all
scanlines everytime. This leads to an image which is displayed twice
as high as it should be, which makes XVideo pretty much useless.

(Of course, maybe some secret hardware registers which can fix this
problem.)
