Hi,

After a suspend of my Inspiron 8200 laptop, or a visit to the bios, X11
loses one keystroke,
and then the mouse buttons do not really work right. Moving the mouse
still works.
It seems like the timing is all wrong (even if click really slowly, I
get double and triple clicks).
The keyboard auto-repeat also gets weird. gpm continues to work okay,
if I use it.

I have tried the following, with no success:

Trying external USB mouse instead of internal PS/2 compatible trackstick.
        Disabling GPM before starting X
        Stopping/starting GPM
Switching to virtual console and back to X

The only thing that gets my mouse working again is if I quit XFree86,
and start it back up.

I noticed that xev shows that mouse events behave differently during the
weird behavior. If I press
a mouse button, no event is sent. When I release the mouse button, both
the 'press' and 'release'
events are then sent at the same time.

Recently, somebody else was having mouse problems and was looking for a
way to re-initialize the mouse.

Somebody posted an answer saying:

Have you tried using xmsconfig to change the protocol to a different one and
then back to the correct one?

I've been looking for this xmsconfig program, but do not have it in my
RH7.3 distribution
and cannot find it in
        ftp://.../4.2.0/binaries/Linux-ix86-glibc22/FILES
or anywhere on the net.

Does anybody know how I can reset the mouse, or provide information to
help a X11 developer
make the mouse driver more robust? Maybe my BIOS is not working right,
but having a way to
reset the mouse driver would sure be nice.

Thanks,

Dave.
