Hi,

I have recently acquired a new computer and I cannot configure X in this
new system. I will try to give you all the information I can about the
problem:

1) Motherboard: the system has a Shuttle (Spacewalker) MV42N. It has a
VIA 8751 (P4M266) N.B. and VIA 8233 S.B. Chipset. It integrates a S3
Savage4 graphics accelerator. It has no dedicated memory, and so, it
uses 32MB of the main memory.

2) OS Version: i386 Debian GNUX/Linux 3.0 with custom compiled kernel
2.4.18 (find attached my .config file)

3) XFree86 Version: 4.1.0.1 (default in Debian installation)

4) Configuration: I have configured it with debconf. Apparently it
configures everything just fine. I have selected the follwing
selections:
  - X server driver: savage
  - BusID of the video card: PCI:01.00.00
I think the problem started here: I think this information should
be automaticaly detected, but as it wasn't, I informed it by hand (find
attached also the output of lspci -v)
  - Amount of memory (in Kb): 32000
  - (The other configuration options are not relevant to the problem)
  Find attached /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

5) Starting the X server:
  startx fails. Find attached /var/log/XFree86.log.0

6) xf86cfg:
I also tried to configure X using xf86cfg. It fails, find attached the
output of X -configure and scanpci -v

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Best regards,

Andre Leao Macedo
