Hello Xperts,
I used to use Slackware 8.0's XFree86 4.1.0, which worked great and reliably
once I had it configured. Because I wanted to build GTK+ 2.0 with fancy
fonts,
I decided to upgrade my X to 4.2.0. I always compile from source when I can,
so I swallowed the large XFree86 4.2.0 core and fonts download. I read the
instructions, copied the appropriate host file and did a make World. Took
ages,
but it seemed to compile fine, no errors.
I then 'make install'ed it and ran 'startx'. At first Enlightenment seemed
to
work fine. But in about two seconds I noticed the screen flash to black with
an
irritating click, and flash back as quickly. Soon as it booted up, I noticed
that this flashing seems to happen at random points, but it tends to happen
at
least once every five seconds. This kinda impairs my ability to do...well,
anything under an X environment, since it's sort of distracting when you're
touch-typing and your screen randomly goes blank.
I didn't change my XF86Config file at all. Perhaps some changes are
necessary
to it to correct this foul blinking. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas what
might
be causing this, please shed some light on it. Time for the information
dump.
