Hi Xperts,
I encountered a weird problem with the above configuration (a rather old
Voodoo3 in a dual-processor PIII system, running XFree86 4.1.0 under Debian
GNU/Linux, kernel 2.4.19).

This system has been stable for months, DRI working, OpenGL working, and
yesterday after turning it on the X server went crazy. Text and icons were
drawn in wrong locations, if at all; response to mouse and keyboard input
was very sluggish (~10 seconds to react to a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace).

Switching to XFree 3.3.6 caused these problems to go away, but then the
mouse cursor turned into a block of garbage bits.

The text console showed no problems, and there were no signs of any trouble
in the system or XFree86 log files.

I suspected a hardware problem, and indeed the symptoms went away after I
extracted, cleaned :-) and reseated the video card. Now I'm starting to
worry about needing a new video interface soon...

Has anybody else seen problems like this with 3dfx cards? Is it reasonable
to suspect the hardware?

Thanks,

Jens [not subscribed to the list].
