I hope the Subject of this messages was enough to start describing this, as it
is difficult to sum up in one line.

My Dell laptop running XFree86 4.2.x from CVS (so that I could get the
PanelOff option in the Radeon driver) displays at 1400x1050. I have an
external LCD monitor that displays at 1600x1200. I set the configuration to
1600x1200, set PanelOff, and the monitor shows an image of apparently
1400x1050 in the upper left of the external monitor. The remaining area on
the screen, but two inches on the bottom and on the right show what appears
to be memory in the framebuffer.

It's like the video is showing 1600x1200, but the logical size of the display
is 1400x1050, so only that much of the framebuffer is used, and the unused
part, with uninitialized memory values, is also shown on the screen, filling
the size out to 1600x1200.

If this isn't clear enough, I'll take a digital picture and send it to
whomever is interested.

XFree86 Version 4.2.99.2 / X Window System

Thank you very much for your time. I appreciate your free help!
