I recompiled my kernel to 2.4.19 before I started on X. Could that be it? Before I started configuring X I also upgraded it to 4.2.1 from 4.2.0. Should I start over with 4.2.0 and a stock kernel?

It looks like you have a 4.2.1 server but all of your modules are from 4.2.0. Looks like a botched XFree86 install/upgrade. Furthermore, since the module looks for the XResource extension functions and can't seem to find them, it would seem that the "4.2.0" modules were actually built with something newer than 4.2.0 (since there wasn't XResource support in 4.2.0) and the 4.2.1 server was built without support for it.
