I'm not the expert here, but I dare say studying X Window in order to
understand Microsoft Windows is like studying Holstein cows in order
to understand zebras. Both have black and white coloring, but the 
differences are far more profound than that Holstein cows have black 
and white spots and zebras have balck and white stripes.

To be frank, I don't understand what you mean by "the arithmetic of
Window's [sic] GDI." Could you be more explicit?
