Hi,
A few days ago I downloaded the latest CVS of XFree86 and
started to put it through its paces on my Thinkpad a22p. From
/var/log/XFree86.7.log:
(--) R128(0): Chipset: "ATI Rage 128 Mobility LF (AGP)" (ChipID = 0x4c46)
(--) R128(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xf8000000
(--) R128(0): MMIO registers at 0xf0200000
(--) R128(0): VideoRAM: 16384 kByte (128-bit SDR SGRAM 1:1)
(**) R128(0): Using flat panel for display
(II) R128(0): Panel size: 1600x1200
(II) R128(0): Panel ID: LG.PHILIPS LP150U1-A2
(II) R128(0): Panel Type: Color, Single, TFT
(II) R128(0): Panel Interface: LVDS
(II) R128(0): PLL parameters: rf=2950 rd=65 min=12500 max=25000; xclk=10
With
HorizSync 20-150
VertRefresh 10-400
XFree86-cvs produces all of the resolutions I could want, and
also seems pretty stable (based on 2 days testing) on suspend
and resume. However, white screens (where the LCD panel
floods with white, forcing me to turn the machine off without
properly shutting down first) have occurred under two
circumstances:
1. Changing the resolution in the guest in VMWare in full-screen
mode.
2. Once, when I was shutting down XFree86 using an
XF86Config-4 that was set up to only have the "800x600"
resolution (which I set up for presentations). On another
occasion, however, I was able to shut down XFree86 using
the same configuration without experiencing a white screen.
It is easy to prevent a Windows2000 guest in VMWare from
changing the resolution by accident, but I'm not sure how to
avoid "random" white screens such as #2.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing these white
screens? I'd be happy to try any fixes or provide additional
details...
Thanks,
Case
