I have been trying to debug some problems with xf86 on my
i815-based laptop. After some searches I experimented with
a patch to the i815_driver.c file concerning the OVRACT register.

To test xvideo, a background consisting of the magic overlay
blue color is displayed over the whole screen while a video is
played using xvideo. The result is that coherent, quality video is
displayed, but it is displaced to the left of its correct position
by 542 pixels or so. Without the experimental patch, mis-aligned
and mis-scaled video is displayed only in full-screen mode.

I would very much like some advice on how to solve these video
problems. If someone can suggest the proper fix or a way to
tune the position where xvideo displays, I would be very grateful.

This testing has been done using the laptop LCD, and I will try
to perform some tests using the laptop's video out in the next
few days.

Leif
