Hi,
I have recently installed Redhat 8.0 which comes
with XFree86 4.2.0.
The X server seems to start up without any problem,
but once I am in X, the screen (keyboard and mouse) locks up and freezes at
random times and I am forced to cycle the power on the machine. This usually
happens within the first 30 minutes to 1 hour of starting up and using X. There
seems to be no pattern .... I could be opening a new window, or typing something
into a window, or at times even when I am waiting for a page to download. Often
when it freezes, there is some streaking across the screen.
I have an S3 VIRGE GX2 card with 4MB RAM, which as
far as I can tell, is supported.
I have tried in vain for the past two weeks to
track down this problem trying various configuration options, so any help would
be appreciated. This system is a dual-boot machine, botting both Linux and
Windows.

Thanx,
