Hi Jay, this is an older thread, but I wanted to a "wish".

If there's one module listed in xrdp.ini, then xrdp should
  1) check if there's an already running krfb or gnome equivalent vnc
desktop sharing application running with the user name (we can adjust in
/etc/xrdp which process to look for)
  2) If yes, display this "console" session to the user
  3) If not, start a new Xvnc and show this one to the user

This could be interesting to behave like Windows Terminal Services, ie:
   - Show an existing session if user is already logged on
   - If not, start a new session
