I am connecting with Microsoft Remote Desktop Client 7.0 on XPSP3 
(KB969084).

I tried 16bit, 24bit and 32bit.

It crashes before the login screen is presented.

I updated cvs again today - same problem. If I revert to the copy I 
compiled on 20090902, all is well.
