I recently finished a change that allows X11rdp to resize according to the client. It uses the randr extension to resize the xserver. I added this extension to X11rdp.
To deal with the color depth change, I made the default behavior to always start X11rdp at 24 bpp and convert the color down to the client bpp. I can't find any other way to solve this problem as there is no way to change the xserver bpp once it's running. Let me know if I'm wrong. If you get the latest xrdp from github and the latest X11rdp from server1.xrdp.org, you can test it out.
