Hi Mike, this seems related to a problem with keyboard shortcuts.

Try going to System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts in your RDP session
(presuming you're running a gnome desktop) - and find an entry thusly : "<hide
all normal windows and show the desktop -> D>" - that's a shortcut to hide
and show your desktop, which is probably the behavior you're encountering.

Change that to something else or disable it, and this might solve your
problem.
