Actually, it's not Ubuntu, it's Unity. Unity is one of the worst desktop managers I've seen and they have no interest in any remoteing. About the same with Gnome 3. Mate on the other hand and even KDE remote well. The problems with Unity are not xrdp specific. Same problem with Linux Terminal server project, VNC, X forwarding, etc. It will simple not work at all when they move to Mir. I suggest either Kubuntu or Mint Mate.
