You mean you can't connect to port 3389 with an rdesktop client?  Or do you 
connect and get a login screen but can't proceed from there?

Can you give more details?  The default settings seem to change from version 
to version but (IMHO) the current version does the right thing - one session 
per user.  If you connect as a user with an existing session you will get 
the previous session back.

If you have the default version from Ubuntu 12.04 (0.6 iirc) then you will 
want to get a newer version.

There are quite a few ways to look at this, maybe look at established 
sockets on port 3389 with netstat -pan and track it back to the X server 
process?  If I get a few minutes today (and nobody has a good answer) I'll 
take a look.
