Various people have suggested ways to do this nicely.

If indentation and syntax highlighting are desirable but not
absolutely essential, then for quick and dirty results a 
simple way to display a node in XML syntax is

  <xf:output value="serialize(.)" mediatype="text/plain"/>

Wrapping it in a 'pre' element is a simple way to get it styled
in monospace.
