This is a known limitation for XSLTForms with TABLE.
The workaround is to explicitly add THEAD and TBODY elements:

<thead>
<tr>
<th>Thing</th>
</tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
<xf:repeat nodeset="/things/*">
<tr>
<td>
<xf:output ref="."/>
</td>
</tr>
</xf:repeat>
</tbody>
</table>
