Michael,
XForms specifications do not define more than synchronous/asynchronous
submission and there is no extension for timeout currently in XSLTForms.
As far as I can see, some XMLHttpRequest implementations in recent browsers
allow to specify a timeout value
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/cc304105%28v=vs.85%29.aspx). Do you
have a list of browsers versions to be supported?
It can probably be prototyped easily in XSLTForms if you are interested in.
What do you think?

In an XForms-based interface to an XML database, I must occasionally
issue commands that take a while to run. Currently the database server
is configured to abandon a query after 30 seconds of clock time, but
XSLTforms sometimes seems to abandon the submission before that
time has elapsed.
Does XSLTForms set a timeout on submissions? Can I increase it? Are
there other workarounds?
I regret that I am not currently able to offer a pointer to a public page that
exhibits the behavior in question; if that's necessary, it will take me some
time to figure out how to do that and then do it.
