That's what I was taught, Stacey! :)

As long as all your bottom stitches are going the same way and your top
stitches cross in the opposite way, it really doesn't matter.  And I've seen
instances where the stitches were deliberately "mixed" to get a particular
effect, so I guess even that rule isn't totally hard and fast!

All I know is that my sister and I stitch "opposite" (she crosses top left to
right, I cross top right to left) so we don't work on each other's pieces
much. <g>
