Welcome to all the new comers and hi to all the long time members!
I haven't posted the guidelines for a long time. SO here they
are. We are at 483 members! The number waivers about 30 either way
for 475!

<----- Please Read and Save --------------->

1.) When replying to a post, make sure you are adding something to the topic.
Posting things like . . .
        "Me Too!"
        "I agree!"
        "Congratulations!"
        "where do you live?"
        etc.
should never be sent to the list if that is all they contain. Also,
when replying to a message, read ALL the other posts before you do. The answer
you were going to give may already have been given, several times. Make
sure your posts add to the conversation. This list has enough messages without
the cute little remarks. Save them for private email.

2.) When posting to the list, make sure your subject line reflects what you are
talking about. This is especially true of the digest subscribers. If you
don't change the topic, it will have the digest information in the subject.
Also, include enough of the original post so that folks know what you are
talking about. New folks join the list all the time and may not have gotten
the last
few posting.

3.) Do not respond to off topic posts on the list. Responding just clutters
the list more with off topic messages. Off topic is anything that is not
directly xstitching related.
What you watch, eat, drink or otherwise do while stitching is NOT on topic.
We have no problem with the sharing of good news with the list even if it is
off topic. So if your son made Eagle Scout, you just found out you're
pregnant or you just got engaged, announce away! But please, send all your
congrats, condolences, etc in private email.

4.) Please make sure your personal email in a part of the message, not everyone
has the same information given them in the headers of an email. Your signature
line is a good place to do this. And on that topic, keep the signature line a
reasonable length. Customarily signature lines are about 5 to 6 lines.

5.) Listing that you have items for sale is fine, but all responses for
those interested should be in direct email. Sellers: make sure you remind
the folks to do this and please make sure your email address is included.
Commercial members of the list are free to advertise in moderation.
The second Friday of each month is ADVERTISERS DAY. Your main items advertised
MUST be directly stitching related. Fabric, floss, patterns, organizers, etc.
Again, all other business matters should be handled off the list.

6.) Don't send attachments to the list. Majordomo does not deal well with
attachments. Don't use the enhanced text capabilities of your email program.
Not everyone can see them, and again, majordomo does not deal well with these
enhancements. If you're using Micrososft Outlook, IE, or Netscape to write
email or any other email program, turn off the "HTML encoding" or rich text.
Those of us on Unix shells can't read it, and it causes attachments usually
named
"windat" something or other which happens to be what the digests are called for
those on the digest list. This causes extra work for the list administrator
when
everyone requests a copy of the digests.

7.) NO FLAMES! Agree, disagree, discuss. But, rude. argumentative and
inflammatory remarks about anyone or any opinions will not be tolerated.
Posting of flames to the list will result in the poster being removed and
banned from the list. Also, most flames are off topic, so dont do it. This
is rule is ENFORCED 100% of the time!

8.) If someone is doing something outside the "rules" do not point it out on
the list. Contact Mary (Me), my email address is at the
bottom of every message that goes to the list. I will handle the moderation
of the list. Do not point out that they are sending attachments, or that the
topic is inappropriate. After all, this would be Off topic! That is the job
of the
list owner/moderator. Let me handle the indiscretions of some.

9.) Do NOT post any email chain letters and internet alerts to the list.
Also, do not send
unsolicited email chain letters to the list members. If you must send chain
letters
send them to people you know personally. Posting chain lettters to the list
will result
in the poster being removed from the list. Also, most chain letters would be
OFF TOPIC.
If you feel there is something of urgency that you would like to post
contact me first.
However, if it is concerning a VIRUS or other "internet user alert", such as the
warning about "flashing your headlights" or "aids infected needles in
theatre seats"
check it out first, and tell me your sources. If and only if it is legit
will it be allowed.
HAPPY99 IS A LEGITMATE TROJAN HORSE TYPE VIRUS. And thanks for all the work
you have
done to keep it OFF of the list. THANKS!

10.) With over 400 members this is a high volume list.
These guideline are meant to keep the levels managable. Following these
guidelines
and the list will be a much more enjoyable place for everyone.

Y10K --- why wait until 9998?
