I've never worked on linen, is it hard to learn? The shop will call me when
they have their next class. My favorite designer is Paula Vaughn, and all
her pieces are done on linen, and though I have several of her designs, I've
 never started one.

 Sorry i rambled,

Nikki:

I started my first linen project in November after some encouragement from
someone on this list. I'm doing Fairy Grandmother, a L & L pattern and
thoroughly enjoying working on her.

I chose Jobelan because it's easier for me to see and count the holes. When I
started out, I gridded the top half of my fabric and that really helped me to
see where I was and get my stitches placed right. I also took my pattern,
copied and enlarged it so I could mark off as I go. I've been using a yellow
highlighter, but yesterday I got a package with blue, pink and green pens and
everytime I work on her, I'll use a different color and that way can tell what
I've done that sitting. By the way, I've already taken the grid lines out and
I'm working without them and I'm probably only 1/4th done with her.

I have several L & L patterns and I really don't think the patterns are as
difficult as they look when they're finished. There's very little
backstitching....yeah! I did decided to do her face over one and I DID IT!
It's so pretty and I was so proud of myself for getting it done. If I hadn't
had my Dazor light and magnifier, I don't think I could have seen to do the
face.

Go get your fabric and pattern and go for it! There's lots of information on
linen on the internet. I would advise using the grid lines to start rather
than making mistakes and having to rip. It didn't take me long to put them in
and they were a real help in the beginning. I don't know who wrote back and
encouraged me to go ahead and start Fairy Grandmother, but thanks!

Carol
