I have this chart, and it is a bit different. The DMC Color Card has the
attached pieces of floss, but only the DMC 6-strand floss numbers and the
associated numbers for their perle cotons. Other color conversion charts I've
seen only have the DMC / Anchor / J&P numbers (sometimes names). The DMC
floss chart is *sortof* by color family, except where the new colors of floss
were introduced ... mine is a few years old.

This CraftSoft chart is different in that is has no floss pieces attached. It
has a color chart of the approx. shade of the flosses, in order by color
family. They are in rows (by number) and columns (by letter). On the
adjoining page is an print chart saying with the coordinates of the color
(i.e. 1B) and then the approx. color match under columns of company name.
Let's see if I can drawit out:

                ANC     DMC     JPC
1B              --              --              3067
1C              031             3708    --

There are four of these charts:
B = Brilliant Color Chart
M = Muted Color Chart
N = Neutral Color Chart
T = True Color Chart

The second chart has the Anchor, DMC and J&P numbers in order by number. This
is divided into three columns.

First, floss number in numerical order
Second, Letter of which chart you can find this number (B, M, N or T)
Third, what row and column you'll find the color (B1, H17, etc.)

In other words, the 2 charts work together. If you have a floss number, and
want to know what the other floss numbers in that color family are, you
1. look at the 2nd chart to find the floss number
2. go to the correct "letter" chart (B, M, N or T)
3. go to the row and column.
4. see what other floss numbers are in the row to get numbers of other floss
in that color family

OR

If you are designing, and want to work with various shades of floss in the
same color family, you look at the "lettered" charts (B, M, N or T), find the
color family you want, then go to your floss to pull the corresponding floss
by number.

A friend of mine bought this chart for me and gave it to me at Valentine's
Day. I haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, but I think I could be a
very valuable tool, especially if you want to do a bit of designing. In fact,
it was on the recommendation of a designer that I got (asked for) this chart.
I have not yet done a side-by-side test with the floss against the printed
colors on the chart to see how closely they match. But even if the printed
colors do not match exactly with floss swatches, this chart should still be
very valuable because of the way the flosses are grouped by color family.
