>How many people are using call-by-reference by now?
Rdiger, et al:
I'm still scripting in HyperTalk; so I'm not. But there have been times
when I wished I could. I have used call-by-reference in other languages
that support it. A lot of the globals I declare would be unnecessary if
handlers could change data belonging to the handler that called them.
Whether this should be the standard is a question I lack the technical
depth to answer. With the tendency for Xtalks to deal with longer and
longer strings, the overhead saved by simply passing a handle instead of
duplicating a string each time it is passed may become increasingly
significant.
