Scott Raney: "We have enough trouble getting beginners using more than a
small fraction of what's already in any of the xTalk dialects..."
Ruediger zu Dohna: "I dont see xTalk as a beginners-only language!!!"
I don't, either. However! The fact that HyperTalk *is* so approachable, so
easily grasped by novices, is one of its greatest strengths, not so? In fact,
I'd go so far as to say that this is *the* thing that makes HyperTalk what it
is. If HT ever loses its novice-friendliness, what is it that would
distinguish HT from Java or C++ or Python or any bleedin' *other* language?
Remove HT's ease of use/learning/etc, and what's the *point* of using
whatever's left when you could instead be using PASCAL or BASIC or whatever?
"If you want assembly language, you know where to find it..."
Myself, I'm all for adding advanced features to HyperTalk as and when
feasible. BUT. If you can't implement a proposed feature in an elegant,
easily-grasped manner, I say it's spinach and I say to Hell with it!
