I think this would be good to support at least Emacs 21.2 (I'm
personally using it on several different machines, partly because this
is the version of Emacs in Debian stable), and I'd like to support
Emacs 21.x \forall x, at least untill the 1.0 release.

After that, we will be able to consider that people using old Emacsen
should be satisfied by the 1.0 version, and add more dependancies for
the next releases.

I'd rather create a xtla-emacs.el, loaded for all emacs versions, and
use (if (fboundp )) to create the functions if they do not exist.
