I am not sure, which problem would you like to solve by removing ewoc.el from contrib. The development focuses now on dvc. I have no problem with removing it for my platform. What was the reason that we included it - perhaps XEmacs support? ewoc.el in contrib is not activated by default. You need to add it to your loadpath to use it. So it should do no harm.
