The system used is a live USB with a standard Xubuntu iso and persistent
storage. It simply requires some of the features only available under
xubuntu-restricted-extras so as to be able to perform its task. The
downloaded iso MD5SUM matches. It shouldn't have any apt cache issues.

PS. Using sudo apt-get update has wrecked live USB (X)ubuntus,
particularly when it detects radical things like kernel updates.
