Hi all,
Just a few words about the look and feel of xubuntu.
From the visual point of view, right now, xubuntu
looks really bad, it is a melange of colors and images
(browns, blues) taken from the various distros. It
totally lacks consistency.
I've just opened a bunch of Gnome and KDE apps in XFCE (running Dapper)
and not found it really bad - in fact, it's quite passable. That said, I
can't remember if I've previously changed any settings on this box. It's
currently using the default XFCE theme; certainly everything looks foul
using the default Ubuntu Human theme. Is this just a matter of setting a
theme as default?
The KDE apps look a bit strange, but that I presume is because of the QT
toolkit.
I think, the time is right to decide upon its color
scheme and create a distinctive character for xubuntu
. In terms of colors, I vote for blue; this is why;
blue suggests lightness and solidity (especially if we
make it a kind of metallic blue). Anyhow, I've already
created some wallpapers for your consideration in the
spirit of simplicity to make them mach to the other
ubuntu flavors; you can look at them on the Viki page.
I've also created a login screen, but that is just a
kind of concept. Let me know what you think about
them.
FTR, the wiki page is: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XubuntuArtwork
Personally, I like the greys, silvers and light blues; I really don't
like those mouse head designs.
But beyond personal preferences, I think we should avoid the deep blues
of Kubuntu (and KDE in general), for differentiations sake.
