Folks, All the goodness that appeared at the beginning of the month was great. I used the .jigdo files of ubuntu proper to get both -alternate and -server with a svelte 360Meg download, as I had been 'tasting' Dapper all month.
jigdo has the great functionality of being able to rebuild CDs from piles-o-debs lying around in /var/cache/apt/archives, and then 'topping up' from deb archives. I had to edit the xubuntu-6.06-alternate-i386.jigdo file to refer to xubuntu-* rather than ubuntu-* to be able to use it. Having done that, I now have the xubuntu alternate CD as well. -desktop CDs do not have jigdo files, I think because it uses squashfs, where iso9660 allows straight correlation to be used to match debs within the CD. Perhaps the xubuntu build process could ensure the jigdo file refers to the correct filenames ?
