Hi all, I did some brainstorming and have come up with a few suggestions. More will come later. At this stage, this is what I am suggesting.
From the usplash and the greeter logo take out the wording 'xubuntu'
and leave only the actual icon-'the circle and mouse'. The word 'xubuntu' is redundant. The reason: we have to strive to develop a kind of branding image similar to the icon-ified N in Novel or the checkmark Nike logo. In other words the image should speak for the brand rather than both. This fine-tuning already started with the ubuntu wallpapers. In warty we had a big logo on the wallpaper. In breezy it was still there but hardly visible and in dapper it disappeared completely. Mr Shoutleworth said: "The default should be distinctive enough that people recognize it from screen shots without any logo-style branding." In terms of visuals, this philosophy should be applied to other visual content as well. And what I am suggesting is logically fit into this doctrine. Practically, this would mean a larger logo on both artworks. This would bring the logo into focus, or to the center of attention allowing the image to burn faster in the mind of users. After all this is what branding is all about.
I am also thinking about a new login splash, a more serious and more polished version than current animation. As soon as I have something definite, I upload it for viewing. But before let me know what you think about the previous idea. We have to fix these issues, before I start working on the other images because the outcome will effect them too. J.
