I agree as well.

I think Brian brings up some very good points that I think we need to look at. Xubuntu is an official "flavor" of Ubuntu and so our website needs to be professional or we'll damage the Ubuntu and Canonical image.

Also, I don't think we need to replicate every effort Ubuntu has. The only difference between the flavours is the desktop environment and the applications they users are most likely going to be using which leaves a lot of core stuff the same - both community wise and technically-wise (haha, I'm making up words here). For example, the fridge could be used as much for the Ubuntu community as the Xubuntu community... do you get where I'm coming from?

Anyhow, I'm being pestered to hurry up and go buy pizza for the folks but I'll be sure to elaborate more on this later.

Thanks,

Cody A.W. Somerville

P.S. I have a lot of experience with drupal (and the same for apache, mysql, etc.) - so can I help out with the development of the website and stuff? <grins>

Now that you mention it, I do agree it should be an off-site thing, and we could link to it on Xubuntu.org

After reading some responses, I wanted to clarify what I envisioned xubuntuguide.org to be.  I hope for it to be very much like ubuntuguide.org.  If you haven't checked it out, go there and scroll through it a bit…it will help give some context to this question.

It is very much an "unofficial" Ubuntu site, which is why I hesitate to attach it to the official (and Canonical-supported) site.  For example, ubuntuguide.org contains instructions for adding repositories that contain unsupported, non-free, or possibly illegal packages.  While extremely useful, I don't know that the official site would want to be responsible for this content.

But on the other hand, I don't want to dilute or fracture any momentum the Xubuntu project has going…I want to respect the wishes of the main team, contributors, and users.
