When I recently installed Ubuntu Edgy Eft Desktop from the alternate install
CD, I followed with "top" and from console messages what happened during
the installation process. I think what I noticed should apply also to
the Xubuntu install, but maybe somebody could confirm it.
Several runs of "scrollkeeper" were taking by far margin most of the
installation time. I think it's called e.g. by gtk-doc (scrollkeeper is
AFAIK used for generating/updating desktop documentation). It's memory
usage was also second[1] largest during the (alternate cd) install at >20MB
of private (according to /proc/PID/smaps). A bit funny that documentation
is the most timeconsuming thing. Maybe their installation could be optional
or done later...?

[1] Largest memory usage during the install process went to "localedef"
at 40MB. In Breeze server installation (which doesn't create desktop docs)
which I did earlier, "localedef" was also the process taking most CPU.
But maybe that has been optimized for Feisty.
