Hi, just two advices: 1) I use xubuntu on a really old machine, when I firstly login in a fresh install I remove the background image. so my perfect default bg is a gradient or even a flat color... 2) about the panel: Xubuntu is part of the Ubuntu clan, so appear to me natural to settle a (relatively) common layout
