Cool. Want to try making update-notifier use something else for the tasks it 
now use GnomeClient
for and make it not depend on libgnome? It will still have gvfs deps for now.
update-notifier is ikept in bzr in LP and mvo is open to such changes.

Another task is the GtkAssistant migration in network-manager I mentioned but 
that is a gutsy+1
task as n-m 0.7 is unreleased yet.

Yet another is make mousepad use GtpPrint instead of calling xfprint so we can 
drop the latter.
Upstream mousepad was working on various features but seems stalled.

Or the perl task of making the gnome debconf frontend not depend on libgnome 
(it uses GnomeDruid,
replacable with GtkAssistant)

Or if you have other GNOME/Ubuntu apps you think we could use let's talk about 
that and see if it's
possible to tackle in the gutsy timeframe. GNOME is close to code freeze and 
beta so the chances of
getting patches upstream are decreasing slowly.
