On the recent restoration in the seeds of totem instead of xfmedia (thanks Lionel) , I agree with it especially since it uses the gstreamer backend. This has the advantage of automated install of codecs for new users who wouldn't know why the media is not playing and do not read or search for documentation.
xine has it's advantages too, better DVD support in particular.
