WordPress MU would provide a possibility both the Xubuntu blog (dependless if it's a planet or a real blog) and the Xubuntu website. They could co-exists with the same WP installation and have totally different themes, users and user rights.
WordPress also comes with page features and thus can be thought as a CMS also. You can write a blog in Drupal, so doesn't that make Drupal a blogging software then? WP MU would also provide better feed (RSS and Atom) features - the (currently not even working) Xubuntu website RSS can only show everything in one category, not by, for example, tags or categories (which could be, for example, "release announcements" etc.). There is no need to start a flamewar about the subject.
