Hi Lutz,

I don't know what causes the problem but I do know a workaround as I had a similar problem with an earlier version of *buntu.

When you see the keyboard symbol, hit Esc and this will take you too an old style text screen asking you what you would like to do.
Press F6 to go to advanced options and select nomodeset.

You should be able to use as normal and install like you did on the other machine.

After installation if you get the same problem you can force grub by holding Shift at startup, press 'e' to edit the relevant line on grub and add nomodeset after the 'quiet splash' line.
Ctrl + X will boot with those options and you should be sorted.

Cheers

Lutz,

If you have not yet done so, please file a bug report, providing as many details as possible. For example, there are many HP Pavilion dv6-xxxx models so which one? What is the nature of the "hybrid graphics"?

Please email me the bug report number once it is filed. I am going to try and find a dvx locally here in Dallas that has as close to your situation as possible and see if I can reproduce this unfortunate occurrence independently.

Richard

Pasi,
If you think it's "developer spam", you misunderstood my meaning: It's a BUG in the just released LTS version

I just tried to boot from the Xubuntu 14.04 64 bit DVD on my laptop (HP Pavillion dv6, i7 CPU, hybrid graphics) and I get nothing: booting starts, I get the little keboard symbol at the bottom on the screen and then blackness. I don't get the screen selecting between "Try" and "Install".
The same DVD installed fine on a Dell Inspiron tower earlier.

Pls help!

Let's keep this thread in the xubuntu-users list, no need to spam the developer list with support questions.
