Jeff,
I noticed, sometimes in this situation I get a dialog where I can choose from applications, sometimes I get a regular file open dialog and need to navigate the file system.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable will know exactly why sometimes one dialog and sometimes the other appears.
I personally find the mime type management in ?ubuntu not overly intuitive

I keep trying to open files/links for torrents or software center links, etc that I don't have a default application for in Xubuntu and it brings up that dialog box that says:
"This link needs to be opened with an application. Send to:
Choose an Application"
I hit choose and it opens up my downloads folder..
Shouldn't there be a list of applications or something?
I don't have to navigate to where the program is installed in my filesystem do I?
I sure hope not.

Also is this the right list to be asking this again?
Thanks!
