Personally, I think it would be an important improvement if the gksu package (and therefore gksudo as well) would be part of the default package set of Xubuntu again.
I always install it rightaway. What a lot of people nowadays do, unfortunately, is to use "sudo" for graphical applications that sometimes need root (like Thunar, Leafpad or Mousepad). Very bad practice. If you look at askubuntu or the Ubuntu forums, you can see that this bad practice is currently widespread. For many people it's the easy way out, much easier than messing with incomprehensible pkexec commands. They don't understand or care about what it might do to their file permissions. This bad practice can probably only be made to disappear, when "gksudo" returns as default available option.
