Pinta would be a great option to replace GIMP as a default editor. It's quick to respond and simple to pick up for basic editing. The biggest issue I can see is that it isn't being maintained regularly, the latest release was May of last year.

What about Pinta[1]? It's lightweight, offers basic and advanced
editing options, and is much more comprehensible than GIMP.

There is also a portable version you can run on a external hard

Gimp is really not that bad it is a bit heavy. i use it all the

external hard drive. its definitely not for the beginner user.

Since we are discussing about other choices in the default seed

discussion to the table:

Do we want to keep shipping GIMP?

For some background, the team has discussed the issue [1] and
gone through various simpler alternatives [2] for GIMP a few
times* in the past, but no suitable candidate was found.

Do we think there is a suitable, light and easy-to-use
alternative for GIMP now? Should we simply drop GIMP altogether
and not replace it?

Discuss.
