I installed the latest 4.6 RC4 kernel from PPA kernel/mainline in Xubuntu 15.10 installation on my laptop. Believe it or not, save for 5 unspecified pop-up messages about unidentified system error right after login, everything works. All applications work about 30% faster, the system is using about 250MB RAM at idle, all program windows open instantly. Never had such an experience with any Ubuntu based distro. Also, the quality of video playback is better than in 15.10 - 4.2. My laptop is not overheating now, even under heavy load.
Please give me your advice on the security issues that should be addressed here - in the long run, would it be safe to continue like this?
Also, having seen this kind of speed and functional improvement, I wonder why would one really want to stay on kernel 4.4 until 2021? For me, the 16.04 LTS kernel is already obsolete, given my real life experience with 4.6 rc4 .
