I have ho pavucontrol (or audio controller) icon in my addon indicator bar. For adjusting volume (up and down) I use keyboard combination in my latop and it works properly. When I need to control something more detail, I'll use alsamixer or pavucontrol from terminal. Quite convenience for my daily activity.

The audio control is actually in the plugin indicator addon. You might need to remove the current one on your panel and add it again to get all the indicators in it

Make sure it's installed then. Package is actually called pavucontrol,
should be available to add to panel now.

Then check in Add Items again.
