Try this
[root@moonstudio ~]# cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/disable-blanking.conf
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
EndSection
with this xorg.conf you now could turn on and of blanking by
xfce4-power-manager-settings, at least when using a PC, something that
doesn't work without it. I don't know if it solves the laptop issue,
too, but I suspect it will do so.
