I too was having problems with Chrome as well. It seemd to be using too many resources. I also tried Firefox and then remembered Opera was also available.
I work with Cryptocurrencies and was aware of a problem with Chrome apps were infected with a bitmining virus. At the time of my research I found Opera was the only browser that had code built in to prevent this sort of thing from happening. So I made the decision to change to Opera and I have found I like it very much and have not any problems to speak of. Now I didn't get rid of Chrome because there are apps I amy need to run from time to time. So when i need them I just launch Chrome perform the task and then close chrome. Not sure if this helps, but I think you should think about giving Opera a try.
