Dear Paul, Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Ubuntu (and also other) Distros are based on Ubuntu. If I switched to another distro or wanted to use another Desktop environment I always installed the whole desktop environment. This includes all standard applications as well as standard software centre, itd.
If you don`t have distribution specific installations it will work quite good. Without guarantee. Good luck.
