Appreciate it if anyone can suggest solution: on Xubuntu 16.04 I experienced intermittent wireless connections. Recently I switched to Ubuntu 18.04, the problem worsened. Find WICD, installed. Removed and purged network-manager. Got nowhere with WICD. Removed, purged WICD. Reinstall network-manager.
Wired connection OK. Wireless not. Here some details I picked up: $ rfkill list 0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: ideapad_3g: Wireless WAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 4: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no $ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. wlp9s0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=15 dBm Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off enp5s0 no wireless extensions. wwp0s29f7u5i6 no wireless extensions I started install WPA Supplicant. Receive warning password to be minimum 8 characters, which it is. 8 character password used to work on the intermittent wireless connection on Xubuntu 16.04 and Xubuntu 18.04. Many thanks for your time. Best regards -- Karel P Coors
