I've had problems with the last few Xubuntu upgrades. This one was the worst. The upgrade failed in the middle, taking my Nvidia graphic card offline. After much work to get the system back to a somewhat stable state, with all packages upgraded, I now find that ever time I login, xfwm4 crashes. I get a desktop and can manually launch some programs such as undecorated and immovable terminal windows, but there is no xfce4-panel, even though that process is running. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this during upgrade. If so, any suggestions?
This is likely a bug which I reported with more details here: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16374 Also, my sound is no longer working. Both Alsa and PulseAudio show that there is internal audio available and in pavucontrol, when I move the volume slider for Line Out (plugged in) I can hear some bips through my speaker, so they are working. However, the internal audio channel never makes it to Line Out. The same is true if I plug in headphones -- no audio. I do see the audio playing on HDMI/DisplayPort 2 (plugged in) which is where one of my monitors (with no speakers) is attached to my Nvidia K4000 GPU. PulseAudio shows the audio output levels for that unused port. If anyone has dealt with this problem, I would appreciate hearing about any steps taken to resolve it. Thanks for your help.
