Thanks to all those who replied. I updated/upgraded to xubuntu20.10. and got hplip 3.20.5 got xsane installed, started xsane and it found my printer, opened the main xsane screen. so far, so good. However when trying to scan I get the following error window: coulp not start scanner: no space. By opening the hp icon in tray found another error msg, that .cups/lpoprint could not be found. Now I am puzzeld. Is there a need to install cups?
